


University English, The English Association and the Institute of English Studies write to ‘express our dismay at plans to close the English Literature course at Canterbury Christ Church’ and to highlight the current data on the positive health, impact and outcomes of English. The ‘English Literature course has consistently achieved excellent metrics in student satisfaction, league table rankings, and research quality’ and ‘argue that in the world in which we live young people need to be able to take advantage of the broadest range of educational opportunities, and to practise the broadest range of skills that they can, in order to make the contribution that our society needs’.
