English BA and MA graduate, Liverpool John Moores University
“My English degree has allowed me to gain transferable skills that will substantially contribute to my employability and that have already contributed to my interpersonal skills and my overall
confidence. Participating in public speaking, research tasks, and critical thinking has been unquestionably beneficial to my ability to articulate ideas and observe and engage with others, and has allowed my writing, analytical, and creative abilities to thrive.
From Paradise Lost to The Haunting of Hill House, Shakespeare to Jamaica Kincaid, theories on the human body to the poetry of rap music, studying English has given me the opportunity to read, understand, and learn from literature written by people from all over the world, and has reiterated for me the indispensable value of the distribution, mobility, and communication of texts.
The encouragement and support I have received from both tutors and peers throughout my four years at university has been intrinsic to my continued studies and has also prompted me to pursue a career that revolves around literature.”
