Botsa Katara
Policy advisor at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), a UK wide regulator for occupational safety and health (OSH)
“I would like to share my experience and rewarding career prospects that a PhD in English Literature (graduated in 2021) offered to me. I am now working as policy advisor in areas as diverse as foreign and
energy policies for my Organisation. I apply my writing and reading skills, and critical thinking to develop official UK positions on OSH- specific matters for international forums like the G7, G20 and the International Labour Organisation. Everyday, I use my learnings from my English degree to formulate green energy policies for a more sustainable future. My degree has not only earned me a gainful employment, but has also given me the ability to make positive changes to the environment we live in and the one we work in. I hope this is an encouraging note to all aspiring English graduates, especially those from the Commonwealth countries.”
