Lucy Alice Williams

English Literature MA student, Liverpool John Moores University

“I eagerly came to university in 2020 with a passion for English.

A few of the academic skills I have developed during my BA and MA are critical thinking skills, comprehension, research skills, communication skills, and many more. However, my studies have also allowed me to flourish personally, developing my confidence, motivation, adaptability, creativity, and the ability to acknowledge issues and create solutions. Studying English provides people with opportunities to discover oneself on both a professional and personal level.

My years studying English Literature have given me insight into different cultures and histories, which would have otherwise been unknown to me. It has also allowed me to make friends with similar interests and has given me a way to relax and unwind when life gets a little overwhelming.

My MA has strengthened my desire to teach English and pass on the gift of education to the next generations of young people. The academic and personal skills I have developed on my BA and MA have equipped me with the skill set necessary to go into any interviews confidently. In addition, my time at university has provided me with a network of great contacts which will be very valuable as I look for a teaching job after graduating from my MA and PGCE.”
