Events

University English hosts and facilitates key events that bring together the English subject community in Higher Education to promote the exchange of knowledge and to address current issues and developments in the subject area.

Regular events include the Spring Conference and Annual General Meeting, and the online Winter Ordinary General Meeting. These events are open to all members. UE works in collaboration with members and Learned Societies in English to host English: Shared Futures, a major academic conference and festival bringing together academics, teachers and professionals in English Literature, Language and Creative Writing under the shared theme of celebrating and caring for the discipline. The conference is open to all those with an invested interest in the English subject. UE also collaborates and facilitates a number of one off and bespoke events such as Speaking for English in UK Higher Education (co-hosted with EA and IES), and the collaborative Action On English Online events and the Heads of Department and Subject Leaders Away Day. All upcoming events are publicised on our website, social media and via our mailing list.

A one day event held in early December in London, with a Plenary speaker followed by panel sessions.

Subject Leaders Networking

The event brings together a diverse group of academic leaders (across regions, types of university) who have strategic responsibilities in English language, literature and creative writing from a range of universities.
